When To Go For Truckload Shipping

7/7/2018

Truckload shipping can help you transport large amounts of goods using a semi-trailer or intermodal container. It’s usually used to ship over 10,000-pound products. Unlike LTL (less-than-truckload) freight that transfers goods from one truck to another, truckload shipping delivers cargo directly to its destination. If your cargo is around or over 10,000 pounds and it can take up an entire truck container, going for truckload shipping might be your best option.
It is also a good choice if you need to transfer the goods to only one destination or if you want to load and unload the cargo on your own or have an agent do it for you.
Truckload shipping offers a lot of benefits. One of these is the faster shipment of goods since it is directly delivered to its destination point. This also means less risk of damage since products are only handled at the pickup and drop off place. Another benefit of truckload shipping is the affordable cost. Pricing per mile means that it can be less expensive than other forms of delivery.

Before the carrier arrives, you need to prepare your freight. Follow the instructions of your carrier to protect your goods from any damage and avoid extra charges. The products should be appropriately stacked. The shipping container should also have a visible label. If you want to get the most precise bid, you need to list your goods accurately. Measurements are significant when shipping freight.  You have to measure your freight shipment to determine the right kind of freight service you need.

List the weight, number, and size of the individual units. Carriers usually ship boxes, pallets, crates, and drums. These items can be used to describe your freight better.  Don’t forget to include the load density and freight class if you know this piece of information. You should also include any special arrangements your freight may have like getting the permits needed. Whether you book an instant quote or list your load for bids, having a detailed list of your goods will help you get a more accurate shipping cost.

Choosing a good 3PL/freight broker or carrier is also essential. You have to check their references, authority, and insurance. Check their profile to assess their authority, transport history, and customer reviews. Once you get a bid or quote from a 3PL/freight broker, you should also ask about the cargo insurance. They should be able to give a written proof of insurance that states your cargo’s coverage. You should get this document before shipment. For extra protection, you can also get your insurance from another provider.

So, if you need to ship a large number of items fast to another place without any interruption, truckload shipping is one of your best options. With the right preparation, you can get a precise quote and deliver your freight to its destination without any damage.
