How can you maintain your refrigerated truck safe and clean?

10/15/2018

Handling a refrigerated truck can be very time-consuming and challenging. Most of the time you need to pay a lot of attention to the cleanliness and performance for your refrigerated truck if you want to keep it running properly in the long run. With that in mind, we created a quick list of things you need to focus on when you want to keep your refrigerated truck running properly.
Clean up your refrigerated truck after every haul

This is pretty much a no-brainer. There will always be some spills and dirt or grime in your refrigerated truck after a haul. You have to clean all of that if you want to make sure that your truck is clean and safe no matter the situation. All you have to do is to clean your truck every time you haul something, this way you never have to worry about any health hazards. Speaking of that, you need to clean with extra care. The nails and shards can damage either you or your load, and you want to avoid such a thing from happening.

Get enough fuel

The best thing you can do is to arrive at your shipper with a full tank if you can. Most cooling units will run via your diesel generator, so you do need as much fuel as you can get. Plus, if you lose power due to a low amount of fuel, you end up damaging the load, and that’s the last thing you want to have.

Always check the temperature

You don’t want to damage the shipped items, so you always have to check on the temperature and adjust it adequately. If the temperature gets too high, you will have to deal with bacteria and other stuff like that. Every small detail counts, so you should consider keeping the temperature under control at all costs.

Wash the trailer

That’s a really good idea if you haul meat. If that’s the case, then it makes sense to wash it up as you never have to worry about bacteria or contamination. It’s a very simple process, inexpensive and reliable. You should never skip on washing the trailer, even if it’s not dirty.

See the ethylene gas levels

Ethylene gas can damage your cargo even if you have a refrigerated truck. That’s why we recommend you to check on the ethylene gas levels to avoid any kind of problems. It’s always going to help you a lot if you use a system to check on these levels, otherwise you can end up with various issues, and that’s the last thing you need.

In the end, these tips will make it easy for you to maintain the refrigerated truck at a very good level. It’s never going to be easy to acquire the right results, but with these tips you will make a step in the right direction. If you keep your truck safe, you will inspire confidence, and that’s exactly what people want from you. Keep that in mind, clean and maintain your truck properly and the results can be amazing!
